Costs of economically sustainable coffee production: A farm-level analysis in Latin America
I designed and implemented a new methodology to evaluate business sustainability for smallholder coffee growers
January 2015 to May 2018
Latinamerica
Description
I designed and implemented a new methodology to evaluate business sustainability for smallholder coffee growers at different time horizons based on their establishment and production costs, farm-gate prices and expected productivity.
The project involved extensive fieldwork and operational missions to Latin America working with 450 smallholders in Colombia, Honduras, Mexico and Peru.
I comunicated results to non-specialist stakeholders including farmers, industry, NGO’s representatives and press. In addition, I worked with colleagues from the Cornell Dept. of Informatiion Science to operationalize a web-platform that allows smallholders to costumize costs estimations and improve their information systems.
