Position Title: Research Assistant

Eligibility: Undergraduate, graduate students. 

 

Description:

The Yale School of the Environment (YSE) is looking for a highly motivated student to support a  portfolio of research projects on sustainable agriculture and farmers' behavior. We are seeking for someone who enjoys data analyses, fieldwork, and academic writing . The research is mainly focused on climate services, farmer’s perception, digital advisory tools, land management practices, and conservation.

 

The main duties are:

  • Assisting with document preparation (including grant applications, paper drafts, presentations, reports, etc.) 
  • Browsing archives for information and completing literature review.
  • Assisting with data processing and analysis.
  • Attending meetings with principal investigators and collaborators at diverse institutions such as Smithsonian Conservation Institute, Columbia Climate School, research institutes, and farmers' organizations in Latin America and Africa. 

 

The position starts Fall of 2022 and continues until 2023. The student needs to commit 10-20 hours per week. The schedule is flexible and will depend on the volume of ongoing activities. A weekly schedule would be discussed in advance during planning sessions. The compensation is 15usd/h. There is a 3-month assessment paid period. If successful, the student will be invited to continue and contribute as a co-author in final publications.

 

Qualifications required: 

  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Background in economics, statistics, applied math, cognitive sciences, environmental science or similar. 
  • Experience with data management and analysis.
  • Basic programming skills and familiarity with statistical software. 
  • Excellent team working skills as demonstrated by a track record of activities involving groups/teams to accomplish tasks.
  • Eagerness to learn and adapt as demonstrated by activities where this is evident.

 

Qualifications preferred but not required: 

  • Knowledge of remote sensing sources 
  • Intermediate to advanced level of a second language (i.e., Spanish, Amharic).
